🌈 World Pride Day 2026

Welcome to our World Pride DayĀ special, celebrating the courage, creativity and resilience of LGBTQ+ people throughout history. Together we'll explore the remarkable stories of those who challenged prejudice, changed society and enriched our world through science, sport, politics, literature, music, film and the arts. Along the way we'll enjoy quizzes, discussion, famous faces, memorable films and some of the greatest Pride anthems ever recorded. Whether you're learning something new or sharing your own memories, let's celebrate diversity, equality and the freedom to be ourselves.

šŸ›ļø Homosexuality Throughout History

Same-sex love and relationships are not a modern idea - they have existed throughout recorded history. From the ancient civilisations of Greece and Rome to celebrated artists, writers, rulers and musicians, there is overwhelming historical evidence that LGBTQ+ people have always been part of human society. This activity looks at some of the best-known historical figures whose lives remind us that diversity has always existed, even if attitudes towards it have changed dramatically over time.

āš–ļø The LGBT Rights Timeline

The journey towards equality has taken generations of courage and determination. This timeline follows some of the most significant milestones in LGBTQ+ rights - from the decriminalisation of homosexuality and equal ages of consent to civil partnerships, equal marriage and legal protections against discrimination. It is also a reminder that every freedom enjoyed today was won through the efforts of countless campaigners and allies.

šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ Why We Still Need Pride

Although enormous progress has been made, Pride remains as important today as ever. Around the world, many LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination, bullying and violence simply because of who they are or who they love. Pride celebrates how far we've come while reminding us that equality, dignity and respect cannot be taken for granted. It is both a celebration of diversity and a peaceful call for fairness for everyone.

⭐ Gay Icons of the 20th Century

The twentieth century produced an extraordinary generation of LGBTQ+ pioneers who transformed entertainment, sport, science, politics and culture. Many achieved greatness despite living during periods when being openly gay could end careers or even lead to prosecution. Their talent, courage and determination changed attitudes, inspired millions and left a lasting legacy that continues to shape the world today.

šŸŽ¬ Iconic Gay-Themed Movies

Cinema has played a powerful role in telling LGBTQ+ stories. From groundbreaking classics to modern award-winning dramas and uplifting comedies, these films have helped audiences understand love, identity, acceptance and equality. Some challenged prejudice, others celebrated community, but all have become important milestones in the history of LGBTQ+ representation on screen.

šŸŽµ The Greatest Gay Anthems

Music has always been at the heart of Pride celebrations. These unforgettable songs have become symbols of freedom, resilience, self-expression and joy. Whether written by LGBTQ+ artists or embraced by the community, they continue to fill dance floors, Pride parades and hearts around the world. Sing along, reminisce and celebrate the music that has united generations with messages of hope, confidence and pride.
