By way of celebration of the 80th anniversary of 'Victory In Europe Day' on 8th May 1945, here is a 'VE Day Music Quiz' for your dementia cafe members to enjoy. As the title suggests, this is a music based CST activity with photos to prompt recall. (A few of the songs are from other wars.)

Round 1. TV
This round is a straighforward 'Name The TV Show' by looking at the images and listening to the TV themes. (Go to the Spotify playlist below.)

Round 2. Some WW2 Posters
You could discuss these posters with members and talk about ...
What it must have been like to have a parent go to war and perhaps not return?
What it must have been like to hear the air-raid sirens and take shelter?
What rationing must have been like? How could you make your rations last or add to them?
What blackout must have been like?
What were the 'reserved occupations' that supported the home front? (railway and dockworkers, miners, farmers, agricultural workers, schoolteachers and doctors)
What must it have been like to be evacuated to the countryside under 'Operation Pied Piper'?
What do members think of war time leaders?
What must have it felt like when the war finally ended?

Round 4. Heroes
Make some time to discuss war heroes. Here are just a few ...
Douglas Bader - Spitfire pilot who became a double amputee when his plane crashed. Yet he went back to flying for a short time before being decommissioned by the RAF.
Oskar Schindler - a German industrialist credited with saving the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his enamelware and ammunitions factories.
Anne Frank - a German-born Jewish girl who kept a diary documenting her life in hiding amid Nazi persecution during the German occupation of the Netherlands. She died in the Bergen-Belson concentration camp in 1945.
Alan Turing - a mathmatician, computer scientist and code breaker. During World War II, he played a crucial role in breaking the German 'Enigma Code', which is believed to have shortened the war and saved countless lives.
Audie Murphy - an American soldier, actor, and songwriter. He was widely celebrated as the most decorated American combat soldier of World War II, and has been described as the most highly decorated enlisted soldier in U.S. history.
Bernard Montgomery - During the Second World War 'Monty' he led a decisive victory at El Alamein, Egypt; he was also commander of all land forces involved in 'Operation Overlord', the code name for the Battle of Normandy, under the overall command of US General Dwight Eisenhower.
James Stewart - a prolific American actor who in 1944 was appointed Operations Officer of the 453rd Bomb Group and, subsequently, Chief of Staff of the 2nd Combat wing, 2nd Air Division of the 8th Air Force. Stewart ended the war with 20 combat missions.
Winston Churchill - known for his leadership of Britain during World War II, where he served as Prime Minister from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. He was famous for his inspiring speeches, his unwavering determination, and his role in uniting the Allied forces against Nazi Germany.
King George V1 & Queen Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon - he reigned from 1936 to 1952, and his wife was Queen Elizabeth (the future Queen Mother). The Royal Family, including King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, and their daughters Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, played a significant role in maintaining national morale and unity during the war.
