October — A Month of Ideas for CST

October offers a wonderfully varied collection of opportunities for Cognitive Stimulation Therapy. To make planning easier, I have carefully curated a calendar of awareness days, celebrations, anniversaries and seasonal events that can be developed into enjoyable, meaningful and age-appropriate CST sessions. I will also be making my own for every calendar day over at www.cstsongoftheday.co.uk

The calendar begins with broader themes - including Black History Month UK, World Animal Month and Family History Month - before moving through individually illustrated events for each week. These range from World Music Day, World Animal Day and Global James Bond Day to World Bread Day, Apple Day UK, Halloween and many more.

Each date offers a starting point rather than a fixed programme. Facilitators can use the themes to inspire reminiscence, discussion, quizzes, music, word games, sensory experiences and practical activities. Choose the events most likely to interest your particular group, adapt them to participants’ abilities and backgrounds, and never feel that every date must be covered.

I create and share Simon’s CST Activities freely so that facilitators, families and people living at home can benefit regardless of their circumstances. However, maintaining the websites and producing new resources involves ongoing costs.

If you use and value my work, please consider making a small voluntary donation towards those costs. Every contribution helps me keep the resources free and supports the creation of future activities:

Thank you for supporting Simon’s CST Activities and for everything you do to bring conversation, stimulation, enjoyment and companionship into people’s lives.

About Me

Simon O’Donovan MBE is a retired Consultant Nurse who worked in NHS Wales for most of his adult life, supporting people with dementia, their care partners and support staff through managing, developing and improving services to benefit this group.

The main aim of his websites are to share experience and resources freely, so others can dip in and out and use some or all of the free and open access materials provided in their own CST practice. Thus facilitating and supporting the provision of uplifting and enjoyable sessions that optimise people with dementia's quality of life.

This site is not owned by or affiliated to any organisation. It is a personal unpaid commitment with no intention whatsoever of profit-making. However, costs for web package, domain page & YouTube & Spotify subscriptions can be supported via a www.buymeacoffee.com/simondementia donation.
