🍦 JULY IS ICE CREAM MONTH
July is Ice Cream Month – the perfect excuse to celebrate one of the world's favourite treats! Whether your memories are of a 99 Flake from the seaside, a Mr Whippy from the park, an ice cream van playing its familiar tune, or making your own sundaes at home, ice cream has a special way of bringing back happy memories.

• July was declared National Ice Cream Month in the United States in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan.
• Around one in ten litres of all the world's milk is used to make ice cream.
• Vanilla remains the world's most popular ice cream flavour.
• Chocolate and strawberry complete the traditional "big three" flavours.
• Ice cream dates back hundreds of years, with frozen desserts enjoyed by royalty long before freezers existed.
• The invention of refrigeration and freezer technology helped make ice cream affordable for everyone.
• Britain has a long love affair with ice cream, from Italian family-run parlours to the famous Mr Whippy van.
• The familiar tune played by many British ice cream vans is based on Greensleeves.

🍦 FACTOIDS... DID YOU KNOW?
🍦 Margaret Thatcher
Before entering politics, Margaret Thatcher worked as a research chemist for food company J. Lyons & Co.
One of the projects she worked on helped improve the method of incorporating air into soft ice cream, making products such as Mr Whippy lighter, smoother and creamier while using less mix.
🍦 Roger Moore
Legend has it that Roger Moore suggested to Wall's that chocolate-coated ice creams would be easier to eat if they were served on a stick rather than held in a wrapper.
That idea eventually became the hugely successful Magnum, first launched in 1989.

A cheerful, catchy 1950s classic that's impossible not to smile along with. Its playful rhythm and memorable chorus make it ideal for group singing and bring back happy memories of sweet shops, treats and childhood.

One of the songs that helped launch the rock 'n' roll era. Full of energy, fun and infectious rhythm, it encourages toe-tapping, clapping and singing along, making it a wonderful choice for a lively CST session celebrating everyone's favourite frozen treats.
