Famous Fictional Addresses Quiz

Welcome to our Famous Fictional Addresses Quiz, featuring 50 familiar characters and memorable places from films, books and television.

The quiz is divided into five rounds:

  1. Movies

  2. Heroes

  3. Children’s Favourites

  4. Television Drama

  5. Television Comedy

For each picture, try to name the famous fictional person or characters and the place associated with them. The answer might be a street, house, village, town, city, island, hotel or even an imaginary world.

There is no pressure to remember every answer. Allow plenty of time to examine each picture, offer clues when helpful and encourage members to work together. The questions are designed to stimulate recognition, conversation and enjoyable memories—not to test anyone.

Pause after each round to reveal the answers and discuss the films, programmes and characters. You might ask:

  • Did you watch or read this?

  • Who was your favourite character?

  • Can you remember the theme tune?

  • Did your family watch it together?

  • Would you have liked to live there?

  • Which fictional address would you most like to visit?

A familiar song or television theme can also provide a welcome break between rounds.

Round 1 — Movies

From King Kong climbing the Empire State Building and Dorothy visiting the Land of Oz to Mary Poppins arriving at Cherry Tree Lane, this round explores memorable characters, films and locations from cinema history.

Music choice: “Over the Rainbow” — Judy Garland

Pause to remember The Wizard of Oz, its colourful characters and the first time members saw the film.

Round 2 — Heroes

This round brings together legendary, literary and screen heroes, including King Arthur, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Peter Pan, Superman, Batman and Robin, James Bond and the Thunderbirds.

Music choice: “Robin Hood” — Dick James

Encourage everyone to sing the familiar line about Robin Hood “riding through the glen” and discuss favourite childhood heroes.

Round 3 — Children’s Favourites

Revisit much-loved characters including Winnie-the-Pooh, Paddington Bear, Yogi Bear, Ivor the Engine, the Flintstones, Mr Benn, the Wombles, Big Bird, the Simpsons, Wallace and Gromit.

Music choice: “The Wombling Song” — The Wombles

Pause to discuss favourite childhood books, programmes watched with children or grandchildren and television characters that still make everyone smile.

Round 4 — Television Drama

Recognise characters and locations from Coronation Street, Crossroads, The Prisoner, Neighbours, Dallas, Murder, She Wrote, Miss Marple, EastEnders, Doc Martin and Downton Abbey.

Music choice: “Neighbours” — Barry Crocker

Invite members to sing along and remember Scott and Charlene, Ramsay Street and other favourite television weddings and storylines.

Round 5 — Television Comedy

Finish with familiar comedy favourites including Steptoe and Son, The Addams Family, The Munsters, Porridge, Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses, Friends, The Vicar of Dibley, Father Ted and Gavin & Stacey.

Music choice: “Only Fools and Horses” closing theme — John Sullivan

End by sharing favourite comedy moments, catchphrases and characters. Which programme made members laugh the most—and which fictional family or group of friends would they most enjoy visiting?

Remember: the conversation, laughter and shared memories are more important than the final score.
