CST Song Of The Day

CST Song Of The Day (www.cstsongoftheday.co.uk) is a unique, free online resource offering daily song recommendations designed to support Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) for people living with dementia.

Each day’s song is carefully chosen to be familiar, meaningful, and emotionally engaging - often linked to calendar events, awareness days, or seasonal themes to help with orientation and connection.

The platform uses the powerful link between music and memory to spark reminiscence, conversation, and social interaction. Because musical memory is often preserved even as other cognitive abilities decline, familiar songs can unlock long-term memories, lift mood, and help people reconnect with their identity and experiences.

Every post is more than just a song - it’s a ready-made mini CST session, typically including discussion prompts, themed activities, and opportunities for singalongs. These sessions can be used flexibly in groups, one-to-one settings, or at home, making CST more accessible beyond traditional structured programmes.

Created by retired dementia care specialist Simon O’Donovan, the site aims to bring joy, stimulation, and meaningful connection through music - one song at a time.
