Celebrating The Arrival Of Autumn 🍂

Celebrating the Arrival of Autumn
As summer draws to a close, we welcome autumn - a season of changing colours, misty mornings, harvest traditions and memories of years gone by. This collection of activities is designed to stimulate conversation, encourage reminiscence and exercise a wide range of thinking skills while enjoying everything the season has to offer.
There is the The Great Autumn Quiz, featuring 40 questions about seasonal traditions, nature, wildlife and autumn weather. There are also picture challenges identifying nostalgic autumn adverts, together with quizzes exploring familiar autumn proverbs, idioms and sayings.
As usual, music plays an important part in the activities. My Autumn Music Quiz uses memorable song lyrics to inspire questions, discussion and plenty of singing along. The featured CST Song of the Day is the much-loved hymn All Things Bright and Beautiful, accompanied by some interesting facts about its history. Laurel & Hardy's Shine On Harvest Moon is also included.
The reminiscence activities invite us to share memories of playing conkers, wearing hand-knitted Aran sweaters and parkas, and watching our mothers darn socks and patch worn elbows. We also recall coal deliveries, coal fires, outside toilets, familiar soaps, Izal toilet paper and the power cuts of the 1970s.
Finally, our practical activities encourages everyone to guess the weight of the marrow or plan an autumn harvest hamper - choosing what to include, who might receive it, how it could be decorated and whether anything could be homemade.
These activities can be enjoyed in one longer session or divided into shorter sections. Take time to chat, sing, laugh and share personal memories along the way. There are no prizes and no pressure - the most important thing is taking part and enjoying one another’s company.
New season, new colours, new memories - same great company.
