I'm setting up a new 'Creative Arts Gallery' for people with dementia and related diagnoses to showcase their work. The creative arts have a very important place in enhancing quality of life and a great deal of art work is made in CST groups every day, or indeed at home. Not much of it is shared though and in my opinion that is a great shame.
The new 'Creative Arts Gallery' web page on www.simondementia.co.uk aims to provide a space for people to share and showcase their best work, whether it be a drawing, painting, sculpture, poem or photograph. Or it could be a video of a song or dance or other live artwork being performed.
If you wish to showcase your work, please email me a good copy/photo at firstname.lastname@example.org together with your name, CST group, home town or anything else you wish to share with readers.
Bear in mind, your work might be copied and used elsewhere (it's hard to prevent that on the internet!), so if you want me to add a watermark to protect original copy, please let me know. If you want direct contact with readers, who may even wish to purchase your original work, please don't forget to include your email address.
If you are a relative or friend, or indeed an activities coordinator or similar, please make sure you get express permission from the person to share their work before doing so.
I hope this goes well and I'm really looking forward to seeing your work. It's another way of celebrating skills and talents that people living well with a dementia diagnosis retain, or indeed learn or discover later in life. The webpage aims to provide a positive focus on abilities rather than disabilities and hopefully will be the ultimate expression of person centred care through engagement in the arts.
